Four Grams from a Dying Star
The cycle of matter between dormant and living bodies
Four Grams from a Dying Star is an all-encompassing audio work about the cycle of matter between dormant and living bodies. About humans and the symbiosis of iron and how everything is connected. The work takes place at a disused iron ore mine in Bergslagen, which today is an art center.
The element iron formed in supernova explosions and became part of life. Life that evolved and became all the animals that came before us and those that will come after. Each human still contains about four grams of iron. Without it, the body cannot function.
In this work we travel between the contemporary mine, the time of ore mining between 1867 and 1977 and back to the time when precipitation of iron oxide on the seabed formed Bergslagen's iron ore 3 - 1.8 billion years ago.
