Material Narratives
A sound sculpture, a choreography of substances and sounds, a transforming environment whose visual and acoustic properties emerge from the mutual interactions between a dancer, a musician and the stage design
Material Narratives is a sound sculpture, a choreography of substances and sounds, a transforming environment whose visual and acoustic properties emerge from the mutual interactions between a dancer, a musician and the stage design.
The philosophy behind the piece is based on the essay “In praise of shadows” by Junichiro Tanizaki. This text describes the traditional Japanese aesthetics, the enigma of shadows, the subtle and subdued forms and the attitude of appreciation and mindfulness, specially the mindfulness of beauty. The composition of the piece follows the principles of contemplation, simplicity and suspension by looking for a correlation between the tangible and intangible, the hidden and the explicit to create a mesmerizing, hypnotic and emotional piece.
